Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has reportedly died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Sources said the former governor died on Sunday, September 20, 2026. However, details surrounding his reported death remained unclear as of press time, while his family had yet to issue an official confirmation.
Idris served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012. He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeating the then-incumbent governor, Abubakar Audu, in the 2003 governorship election.
His 2007 election victory was later nullified following a legal challenge, leading to a fresh election in March 2008, which Idris also won.
Before joining politics, Idris was a businessman and founded Ibro Trading Company, with interests in construction, furniture manufacturing and hospitality. He also established Ibro Hotel and a furniture factory.
Born in 1949 in Idah, Kogi State, Idris attended schools in Anambra, Kano and Rivers states before obtaining a bachelor’s degree from the University of Abuja.
His family suffered a major tragedy in 2024 when his son, Mohammed Ibrahim Idris, a former member of the House of Representatives, died shortly after Eid-el-Fitr prayers in Abuja.
