Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has slammed people he described as football “Einsteins” for hastily writing him and his Manchester United team off following series of poor results.
The Portuguese’s tenure at the club began well enough with a Community Shield triumph over Leicester being quickly followed by three premier league game wins to start the season.
But things began to look differently with home defeat to likely title rivals, Manchester City, on September 10; disappointing performances against a Netherlands side Feyenoord in the Europa League; and another loss to Watford in the Premier League.
However, after Wednesday night’s EFL Cup win over Northampton, the former Chelsea boss was happy and believes the level of the criticism of his team has been unnecessary.
He told MUTV, “We had a bad week.”
“I know that the world is full of Einsteins, I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career, they tried to delete an unbelievable history of Manchester United Football Club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that’s the new football, it’s full of Einsteins.”
“We have three home matches now in a row and it is always good to be at home. I can understand clearly the disappointment.
Albert Einstein was a German Physicist that, near the beginning of his career, thought that Newtonian mechanics was no longer enough to reconcile the laws of classical mechanics with the laws of the electromagnetic field.
This led to the development of his special theory of relativity.
The former Madrid coach however, added, “If the fans have been disappointed with the last week, I understand completely, but I am sure they will be behind the team like they always are.”
