Five governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State have accused some party power brokers of pursuing an “exclusionary agenda,” warning that it could trigger an internal crisis, mass defections, and another electoral defeat like those recorded in 2019 and 2023.
The aspirants, in a joint statement, alleged that the actions of certain influential figures within the party were shutting out credible members, stifling internal democracy, and undermining efforts to present a united front ahead of the next governorship election in the state.
They warned that if the trend continues, the APC risks another round of fragmentation that could weaken its electoral chances in Oyo State.
“An exclusionary agenda will only lead to an impending crisis, defections, and a repeat of the 2019 and 2023 electoral failure,” the aspirants said.
The group called on the APC national leadership to intervene urgently to ensure a level playing field and restore confidence among members ahead of the party’s primaries.
