Firm Launches App To Curb One Chance Operations In Abuja

Abuja Insecurity: Tackling The Issue Through Proper Urban Governance
Abuja
Sure Group, an IT firm based in Abuja, has unveiled a groundbreaking application designed to register and verify taxi drivers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This initiative aims to tackle the persistent issue of ‘one-chance’ robberies, thereby enhancing security for passengers.
The launch of the app took place during a sensitisation programme held at the Area 1 Motor Park in Abuja, where cab drivers were introduced to the new technology.
This event marked the beginning of an effort to educate and integrate drivers into the system.
The newly developed application provides each registered driver with a digital ID and a QR code specific to their vehicle.
Passengers can easily scan this QR code to access the driver’s registration details, ensuring they are in safe hands.
This feature is designed to boost passenger confidence in using public transport within the city.
In an effort to ensure broad adoption and functionality, Sure Group has established partnerships with various entities, including the government, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
There are also plans to collaborate with a Chinese company to offer electric vehicle loans and with a London-based firm to further enhance the initiative.
The program aims to initially capture the details of 100,000 drivers in Abuja, with plans to expand to other major cities such as Lagos.
Addressing the challenge that not all drivers possess internet-enabled phones, Sure Group is set to introduce USSD codes and SMS options, allowing those without Android devices to benefit from the system.
