Fire at Kano’s Singer Market Successfully Contained -NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that a fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano State has been successfully contained following a coordinated response involving multiple emergency agencies.

The incident, which began on Saturday, February 14, 2026, prompted the rapid deployment of firefighters and emergency personnel from several organizations, including the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, the Nigerian Air Force, and private sector fire units.

The combined effort helped bring the blaze under initial control shortly after it started, limiting its spread across the busy commercial hub.

Despite the early intervention, emergency responders reported lingering pockets of fire in parts of the market, requiring sustained firefighting operations through Saturday night until the situation was fully contained on Sunday.

Authorities said the prolonged effort was necessary to prevent the fire from reigniting and causing further destruction.

Preliminary damage assessments revealed significant losses, with several market stalls, shops, motorcycles, and goods affected by the fire. However, officials noted that the swift response helped protect lives and prevent the disaster from escalating into a wider urban emergency.

The Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, commended the rapid coordination and professionalism demonstrated by all responding agencies and stakeholders.

She stated that the collective effort played a crucial role in containing the fire and safeguarding surrounding property, while reaffirming the agency’s commitment to effective disaster response and emergency preparedness nationwide.
