FG Unveils Plan for Nationwide Internet Access

In a significant move toward enhancing digital connectivity, the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy has launched “Project 774 LG Connectivity,” aimed at linking all 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria to the internet.
This initiative is poised to generate a substantial impact on employment, targeting the creation of at least 300 direct jobs and fostering additional indirect employment opportunities through the expansion of digital access across the country.
The project will be jointly spearheaded by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited and Galaxy Backbone, under the watchful supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
Project 774 LG Connectivity aligns seamlessly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and reflects the ministry’s strategic blueprint, reaffirming its commitment to driving progress on national fronts.
A central focus of the initiative is to facilitate inclusive development by providing digital access not only to urban centers but also to government offices in remote and underserved areas.
The unveiling of Project 774 LG Connectivity came through a social media announcement made by Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, this Monday.
This latest endeavour follows the success of the Three Million Technical Talent programme introduced in October 2023, a strategic move by the ministry to fortify Nigeria’s technical talent backbone in line with the goal of creating two million digital jobs by 2025.
The Three Million Technical Talent program involves collaborative efforts with the National Information Technology Development Agency and various stakeholders, including fellows, training providers, partners, and placement organizations.
