FG To Set Up Blood Banks Across Nigeria

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to set up Blood Collection Centres across all 774 local government areas, including the Federal Capital Territory.

This initiative aims to ensure a constant and reliable blood supply for emergencies and medical procedures.

Abdullahi Haruna, Head of Media and Publicity for the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), confirmed the development in Abuja.

According to Haruna, the Director-General of NBSA, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, emphasized that this project is a key part of the government’s strategy to tackle blood shortages and enhance healthcare delivery.

The NBSA is collaborating with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to develop a robust blood bank within the NSCDC’s medical facilities.

This partnership is intended to bolster blood availability during emergencies and support other security agencies.

The initiative will commence with the establishment of key blood collection points in the Federal Capital Territory, designed for easy access.

This approach is expected to boost blood donation rates and secure a steady supply for medical use.

As the project expands nationwide, it reflects the government’s dedication to advancing healthcare services and improving health outcomes for Nigerians.
