FG revises recruitment criteria in four agencies, allocates 35% of positions for women

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disclosed that the federal government has revisited the recruitment guidelines for four paramilitary agencies.

Tunji-Ojo made this announcement after a meeting with the boards of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) in Abuja.

Represented by Ja’afaru Ahmed, the secretary of the board, the minister revealed that a notable change is the allocation of 35 percent of recruitment slots to women.

These paramilitary agencies include the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS).

Tunji-Ojo emphasized that this 35 percent allocation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

The minister highlighted that the ongoing recruitment exercise in the Federal Fire Service will adhere to these new guidelines.

The focus of the recruitment process will prioritize professionalism, gender inclusivity, and adherence to federal character principles.

He stated, “The federal government, through the board, has approved the review of the guidelines for recruitment into and promotion in all four services under the ministry of interior.”

Additionally, Tunji-Ojo mentioned that the modernization of the Nigeria Immigration Service would encompass various aspects, including training, recruitment, promotion, professionalism, capacity building, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.

The minister assured that the timeline for recruitment into these services would be announced soon.

He cautioned interested Nigerians against falling victim to fraudsters, urging them not to engage with individuals requesting money for recruitment opportunities.

Tunji-Ojo emphasized the government’s awareness of such fraudulent activities and pledged to take action against scammers.

Key figures present at the meeting included Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS); Ahmed Audu, Commandant-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); Abdulganiyu Jaji, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS); and Haliru Nababa, Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
