FG Launches Diaspora Bridge Initiative to Strengthen Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Government today launched the Diaspora Bridge Initiative, a transformative programme designed to enhance Nigeria’s tertiary education system through global partnerships and diaspora engagement.

The high-profile event, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, brought together government officials, academics, and diaspora representatives under the theme “Connecting Minds, Strengthening Institutions.”

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the critical role of Nigeria’s diaspora community in driving educational advancement.

“This initiative represents a strategic move to tap into the vast knowledge and resources of our global citizens to uplift our academic institutions,” he stated.

Education Minister Dr. Olatunji Alausa, CON, outlined the programme’s objectives, which include fostering international research collaborations, faculty exchange programmes, and institutional capacity building.

“We are creating pathways for Nigerian universities to benefit from world-class expertise while maintaining our unique academic identity,” he explained.

The launch featured strong commitments from key stakeholders, including Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON of NIDCOM, who affirmed the commission’s dedication to mobilizing skilled Nigerians abroad.

“Through this initiative, we will bridge the gap between our diaspora professionals and local institutions, ensuring sustainable knowledge transfer,” she said.

The hybrid event, streamed live to participants worldwide, marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to revitalize its higher education sector and enhance global competitiveness.
