FG Investigates 107 Universities for Alleged Issuance of Fake Degrees

The government wants to know more about private universities that started in the last 15 years.

This comes after a report found problems with getting fake degrees from schools in Benin Republic and Togo.

The Minister of Education talked about this in Abuja when starting a committee to investigate fake degrees in the country.

They want to know if these new universities have the right facilities, good management, enough money, and the right staff. They also want to make sure they follow the rules for running a university.

The government wants people to send them information about these universities. They want to use this information to help them make decisions about what to do. This doesn’t change the normal checks the government already does on universities.

A journalist found out he could get a fake degree in Benin Republic in just six weeks. He even did the national service there. After hearing this, the Federal Government decided to look into new private universities.

The committee will check if any government departments helped with getting these fake degrees. They’ll also look into how foreign universities get recognized in Nigeria.

They want to see if any fake universities are operating in Nigeria. If they find any, they’ll suggest ways to stop it from happening again and punish those responsible.

They’ll also suggest ways to make sure new universities follow the rules. This includes how the National Universities Commission gives them permission to start.
