FG guarantees a continuous supply of gas via the pipeline project

Nigeria-Morocco energy Gas Pipeline project

Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), has guaranteed continuous gas supply to the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project.

Ekpo spoke with Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and other project officials while leading a delegation of Nigerians to Rabat.

According to a statement from Louis Ibah, the minister’s spokesperson, Ekpo told his host that President Bola Tinubu was fervently dedicated to the project’s success.

In the release, Ekpo was also cited as promising Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to gas supplies, which will serve as the project’s primary feedstock once it starts operating.

Nigeria has proved gas reserves of 209 trillion cubic feet as of right now, while potential reserves are estimated to be 600 trillion cubic feet, according to Ekpo.

Ekpo stated: “This is a long-term project, but it will succeed. His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu is passionate about this initiative and will do everything possible to ensure that we get to the end of it.” I guarantee that gas won’t be an issue for Nigeria, as I have told you and the Moroccan people.

The pipeline is planned to pass via Senegal, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Gambia before coming to an end in Morocco with a spur to Spain.

According to the minister, Nigeria will be crucial to the product’s marketing in both Africa and the EU.

“We are right on schedule; I will urge the Kingdom of Morocco’s government to keep working hard. To reach the goal, the two businesses representing Morocco and Nigeria would also need to put in a lot of daily effort,” the speaker stated.

The energy minister of Morocco, Benali, expressed gratitude to Ekpo for backing the monetization of gas in Africa.

She also underlined the pipeline project’s strategic significance to both nations, claiming it will spur continental and regional development.

The purpose of the conference between the two nations was to expedite the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project following the numerous memorandums of understanding (MoUs) that were inked in Abuja in 2022.
