The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) delivered the remaining 22,528 liters of liquid gel fertilizer approved by the Federal Government as part of the National Food Security Council’s Emergency Agricultural Intervention (NFSC-EAI), on Friday.
This initiative is aimed at supporting farmers in Taraba State who were impacted by the floods and conflicts of 2018.
NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, handed over the fertilizer to the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, in Jalingo, the state capital.
The fertilizer, recommended by the Office of the National Security Adviser, is a liquid gel formulation that serves as an alternative to traditional granular fertilizer.
According to officials, one liter of this liquid gel fertilizer is equivalent to 50 kilograms of the NPK 20-10-10 granular fertilizer, which is commonly used by farmers for soil enrichment and crop growth.
Representing the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Aminu Boyi Ringim, the Acting Director of Finance and Accounts, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the completion of the fertilizer procurement process.
He also commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for ensuring the timely distribution of the aid, which is critical for supporting farmers in Taraba who are working to restore their livelihoods.
Governor Kefas, through his representative, Mr. Saviour Noku, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, conveyed his appreciation to the Federal Government for the support.
He assured that the fertilizer would be distributed efficiently with the help of NEMA’s Yola Operations Office and the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture to reach farmers in need.
This intervention underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to providing relief and agricultural support to farmers across the country who are affected by natural disasters and conflicts.
It also emphasizes the collaborative efforts between the Federal and State governments to ensure that affected communities receive the necessary resources for food security and agricultural recovery.
