The Federal Government has launched a 40kWp solar hybrid mini-grid in Rafinzurufi, a community within the Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT, Abuja.
This project, spearheaded by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) under the Rural Electrification Fund’s Call 2 programme, is designed to provide clean, affordable, and reliable electricity to underserved areas.
The introduction of this solar power system is expected to significantly impact the local economy, driving development and improving the quality of life in Rafinzurufi.
Rather than offering free electricity, the project will implement reasonable tariffs to ensure its sustainability.
The maintenance of the project will be managed by a Rural Electrification Cooperative Society made up of community members.
One of the key benefits of the project is its role in reducing rural-urban migration by fostering growth within the community.
Local leaders and residents have expressed their satisfaction with the initiative and have pledged to protect and maintain the infrastructure.
The successful commissioning of the mini-grid has been met with gratitude from the community, who have praised the government’s ongoing efforts to improve rural areas.
