FG Approves N1 Trillion Metropolitan Rail Project for Kano

The Federal Government has approved the construction of a N1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano State, marking a major step toward transforming urban transportation and boosting economic growth in the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced the approval while addressing members of the Kano State contingent who participated in the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Borno State on Thursday evening.

According to the governor, the rail project is designed to overhaul the metropolitan transport system, reduce traffic congestion, and provide a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit option for residents.

The service will connect key districts across Kano metropolis, improve mobility, facilitate trade, and attract local and foreign investment.

Governor Yusuf explained that his administration’s recent realignment with the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a strategic move aimed at securing critical development projects for the state.

He described the rail service as a landmark intervention that will reposition Kano as a major transportation hub in Northern Nigeria and significantly enhance the quality of life of its residents.

The governor assured the people of Kano that the state government would work closely with relevant federal agencies to ensure transparent implementation and maximum benefits from the project.

He also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for approving the initiative and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting federal programmes through complementary policies and infrastructure development.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
