Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Femi Adebayo, is beaming with excitement as his epic movie Jagun Jagun (The Warrior) has earned seven nominations at the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Taking to his social media, Femi shared the thrilling news with his colleagues, friends, and fans, sparking a wave of admiration and celebration online.

Jagun Jagun tells the gripping story of Ogundiji, a feared warrior who begins to feel threatened by the rising power of a young warrior named Gbotija. Gbotija’s mission is clear—he seeks revenge for his father’s death. As Ogundiji, known for his tyrannical reign and installing corrupt leaders, grows wary of Gbotija’s ambitions, the tension between the two escalates into a captivating struggle for power and justice.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami, Jagun Jagun was released on Netflix to widespread acclaim. Within just 48 hours, it trended in the United Kingdom and 17 other countries, amassing over 2.1 million views in its first three days.

By August 20, 2023, the film had reached a remarkable 3.7 million views, landing it in the top 10 most-watched non-English films globally during that period.

Earlier, the film won the Best Indigenous Language Movie (West Africa) and Best Costume Design categories at the 2024 African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), further solidifying its place in the industry.

Now, in a new milestone, Jagun Jagun has received seven nominations at the 2024 AMAA, including:

  • Best Actor in a Supporting Role

  • Achievement in Costume Design

  • Achievement in Production Design

  • Achievement in Make-Up

  • Ousmane Sembene Award for Best Film in an African Language

  • Achievement in Visual Effects

  • National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) Award for Best Nigerian Film
