Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has recorded a notable commercial success at the Nigerian box office with his latest epic film, Agesinkole 2: King of Thieves, which grossed ₦417 million within 12 days of release.
The figures were announced on Tuesday by Blue Pictures Film Distribution Company in a joint statement shared on Instagram. According to the distributor, the film achieved the revenue through screenings held in community cinemas across six states in Nigeria’s South-West region.
Blue Pictures described the release as the first Nollywood title to be shown exclusively through community cinemas, rather than conventional multiplex theatres. The company stated that the performance demonstrated the viability of alternative cinema distribution models and the growing demand for locally produced films outside major urban centres.
In a separate post on his X account, Adebayo confirmed the figures, stating:
“₦417 million in just 12 days. First ever community cinema title. First Nollywood film to live in community cinemas.”
Agesinkole 2 was co-produced by Euphoria 360, Circuits, and Hawk Studios, with distribution handled by Blue Pictures Film Distribution Company.
The film’s performance comes amid a strong period for Nollywood at the box office. On January 5, FilmOne Entertainment announced that Funke Akindele’s Behind the Scenes had generated ₦1.77 billion at the Nigerian box office, making it the highest-grossing local film of the period. The distributor stated that the figures were verified and still rising as of 4:00 p.m. that day.
Similarly, Oversabi Aunty, produced and directed by Toyin Abraham, crossed ₦700 million within 18 days of its cinema release, according to FilmOne Entertainment.
Industry-wide figures released by FilmOne Entertainment and compiled from Comscore data show that Nigeria’s cinema box office reached a record ₦15.6 billion in 2025, representing a 34.7 percent increase from ₦11.58 billion in 2024. The data covers Anglophone West Africa, including Ghana and Liberia.
For the first time, Nollywood films accounted for the largest share of revenue, generating 49.4 percent of total box office earnings, slightly ahead of Hollywood productions at 48.8 percent. A total of 2.79 million cinema admissions were recorded across 122 cinema locations, with an average ticket price of ₦5,596.
Agesinkole 2 stands out as one of the year’s highest-grossing Nollywood releases, despite its limited geographical reach and non-traditional exhibition model.
