Federal Polytechnic Registrar Assassinated In Imo

Unknown gunmen in Imo state have carried out a gruesome assassination, taking the life of Innocent Obi, the deputy registrar of Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi state. Obi, popularly known as “Onye Army”.

The tragic incident unfolded in the Ezeala/Ezike autonomous community in Umuezeala, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state.

The assailants, posing as Biafra agitators, targeted Obi at his family home.

It was reported that he had recently traveled to his Umuoboama village to attend the burial of a relative who lost his life in the Northeast while serving in the military.

According to witnesses, a group of over six armed individuals, dressed in military and police uniforms, stormed Obi’s residence around 10 p.m.

They forcibly entered the house, wielding machetes and axes, and unleashed a brutal attack on him.

Obi’s cries for help alerted the villagers, but the assailants resorted to firing gunshots into the air, preventing any immediate rescue attempts.

Despite the efforts of concerned villagers, the gunmen abducted Innocent Obi that Friday night, leaving behind a harrowing scene of bloodshed within his home.

The community organized a search party the following day, leading to the grim discovery of a decomposing body between Ehime Mbano and Ahiazu Mbaise on Sunday.

Reports indicated that Obi had been mutilated, rendering his remains unrecognizable.

He was known for his dedication to providing educational opportunities to local youth and had played a pivotal role in helping many students gain admission to the Federal Polytechnic Uwana.
