The Federal High Court (FHC) has announced the death of its retired judge, Justice Babagana Ashigar, who passed away after a brief illness.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Information of the Federal High Court, Mrs Catherine-Oby Christopher.
According to the statement, Justice Ashigar died in Maiduguri, Borno State, and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Christopher described the late jurist as a distinguished judge who served the judiciary with diligence, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice.
She said Justice Ashigar’s contributions to the Bench and the legal profession would remain a lasting legacy.
“His substantial contributions to the Bench and the legal profession will be fondly remembered by his colleagues, members of the outer Bar, court staff and all who had the privilege of working with him,” she said.
The Federal High Court, through its Chief Judge, judges, management and staff, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Ashigar delivered one of his most notable judgments in September 2022 when he nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primary elections for Kebbi Central and Kebbi North.
The landmark ruling removed the candidacies of former Kebbi State Governor and Senator representing Kebbi Central, Adamu Aliero, as well as former Senate Leader Yahya Abdullahi, who represented Kebbi North, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
