Federal Government Increases Border Security Ahead of August 1 Nationwide Protests

In anticipation of the nationwide protests scheduled for August 1, the Federal Government has increased security measures at the country’s borders.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, announced this decision in a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, on Saturday in Abuja.

Nandap has instructed the Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers of the NIS to adopt heightened vigilance and enhance surveillance across the nation.

This directive is aimed at preventing foreign individuals from participating in the protests.

The upcoming protests, organized by a group of Nigerians under the banner “EndBadGovernance,” are intended to voice frustration over the severe economic difficulties and other issues affecting the country.

Nandap emphasized the importance of this directive, stating, “In line with the responsibility of protecting the nation’s borders, it is imperative that officers, especially those leading Border Commands, are fully prepared to address this situation. We must ensure that no foreign elements exploit the protests to destabilize our country.”
