The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has recorded a major milestone with the successful passing out of over 700 newly trained officers, marking its largest officer training exercise in recent years and the first comprehensive training for new recruits since 2019.
The Passing Out Parade (POP) for Regular Course 06 was held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the NDLEA Training School in Jos, Plateau State, after an intensive nine-week residential programme aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fire safety and emergency response capacity.
The cadets, drawn from the 2022 and 2024 recruitment intakes across the country, received rigorous training in fire suppression, emergency response operations, leadership, discipline, teamwork and decision-making under pressure.
The programme underscores the Service’s renewed focus on professionalism, proactive disaster management and improved nationwide response capability.
The Honourable Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was represented at the ceremony by the Board’s Secretary, Major General A.M. Jibril (rtd), who declared the parade open and delivered the Minister’s address.
Speaking at the event, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, said the Service has prioritised capacity building and operational readiness to address emerging fire and emergency challenges.
He noted that the successful training of over 700 officers reflects ongoing reforms to strengthen manpower, enhance inter-agency collaboration and improve service delivery nationwide. According to him, the newly commissioned officers are fully prepared for immediate deployment across the country.
In his remarks, Major General Jibril (rtd) stressed the importance of sustained training, discipline and collaboration in building resilient security institutions, commending the Federal Fire Service for executing a programme of such scale and impact.
Also speaking, Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Josephine Pyo, who represented Governor Caleb Mutfwang, congratulated the cadets and charged them to uphold the core values and ethics of the Service. She praised the Federal Fire Service for its role in safeguarding lives and property and reaffirmed the state government’s support for federal security agencies.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Fire Academy, ACF Peter Umetali, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the policy direction that enabled the training and to the Minister of Interior for his reforms.
He also appreciated the NDLEA for providing a conducive training environment and commended the instructors for shaping the cadets into disciplined officers.
During the ceremony, outstanding cadets were recognised for excellence. ASF II Sarki Francis Uzomi emerged as the Most Disciplined Cadet, ASF II Anyim Joshua won the Best in Field Drills award, while ASF II Opon Pius Dominic was named Best in Academics.
The event was attended by representatives of military and paramilitary agencies, traditional rulers, senior government officials and other dignitaries, highlighting its national significance.
