Fed Workers Forum Raises Alarm Over Insecurity, Health Sector, Unpaid Wages

—

The Federal Workers Forum (FWF), National Action Council, has warned the Federal Government about rising insecurity, the declining health sector, and the continued failure to pay wage awards owed to federal workers.

The Forum also announced that it will hold a nationwide solidarity march on December 4, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 1, and signed by the Coordinator, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, and other members of the National Action Council, the group said the safety, dignity, and welfare of Nigerian workers are deteriorating.

It called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent action.

The Forum expressed serious concern over the growing insecurity in the country, saying it now poses a direct danger to federal workers.

It pointed to the recent kidnapping of Ministry of Defence staff who were travelling to Abuja for promotional exams, describing the incident as a tragic sign of a nation where even workers in sensitive security institutions are no longer safe.

According to the Forum, the incident has increased fear among government workers who often travel for training, exams, and official duties. It urged the Federal Government to urgently improve security on highways and in communities.

The group warned that if the government fails to act, federal workers may organize a nationwide peaceful protest and could even consider passing a vote of no confidence on the administration.

The Forum said workers are not asking for anything extraordinary—only the basic right to work and live without fear of abduction or death.

It also expressed strong support for striking health workers, including JOHESU and the National Association of Resident Doctors.

The Forum accused the government of ignoring their demands for better allowances and improved working conditions.

The statement noted that the health sector has become so weak that Nigerians now die from treatable illnesses, made worse by the mass migration of doctors and health workers seeking better opportunities abroad.

It criticized political leaders for travelling overseas for medical treatment while ordinary Nigerians suffer in underfunded hospitals.

The Forum urged the government to urgently meet the demands of health workers, saying the failure to act is costing lives daily.

It also condemned the Federal Government for delaying the payment of the outstanding N105,000 wage award meant to help workers cope with economic hardship.

At a time of high inflation, taxes, and rising fuel and living costs, the Forum described the delay as insensitive and a sign of poor governance.

The group expressed concern that Nigeria’s heavy dependence on borrowing has led to worries that the wage award funds may have been diverted or borrowed.

It called on the major labour unions to immediately declare a nationwide strike, demand a new living wage, and ensure the government fulfils its obligations to workers.

The Forum invited workers, civil society groups, activists, and the media to join its solidarity march to the Federal High Court on December 4, 2025, in support of Comrade Andrew Emelieze’s legal case involving the Federal Government and the DSS.

The statement said the march is not just about one person but a stand for workers’ rights, freedom of expression, and the right to organize without intimidation.

The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to protect the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers and urged citizens to stay alert, united, and committed to the struggle for a safer and more just Nigeria.
