FCTA to Launch Mass Deworming Campaign for Children in February

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will begin a mass deworming campaign for children on February 17, 2025.

The programme will run until February 21 and aims to treat children aged 5 to 14 in four area councils: Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, and Kuje.

This initiative follows the delay of a similar program in Abaji and Kwali in December 2024 due to a planned strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress.

At a meeting in Abuja, public health officials explained the details of the program.

The FCT Coordinator for Neglected Tropical Diseases, Eunice Ogundipe, highlighted the importance of giving deworming medicine to children after they eat.

Community leaders will play a key role in raising awareness about the campaign. Traditional and religious figures, as well as school leaders, are expected to encourage participation among families.

The Federal Ministry of Health will also adopt new strategies to improve public acceptance of the medicine.
