FCT Police Warn Residents Against Free Rides as Investigations Begin Into Lawyer’s Killing

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Miller Dantawaye, has warned residents, especially women, against accepting free rides from strangers as part of measures to curb criminal activities in Abuja.
Dantawaye issued the warning on Friday during a courtesy and advocacy visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which included representatives of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), NBA Women Forum and Unity Bar, to the FCT Police Command headquarters.
In a statement released by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner urged residents to remain security-conscious and vigilant, particularly when boarding commercial vehicles.
“He advised members of the public, especially ladies, to be cautious of the vehicles they board and to refrain from accepting free rides from strangers,” the statement said.
The Commissioner emphasised the need for collective responsibility, timely information sharing and public cooperation in preventing and dismantling “one-chance” criminal syndicates operating within the FCT.
Dantawaye also commiserated with the NBA delegation over the killing of their colleague, Ms Princess Ochigbo, and assured them that the command had commenced discreet and extensive investigations into the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police assured the delegation that efforts are ongoing to identify, apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Adeh stated.
Princess Ochigbo’s body was discovered on Tuesday along the Kubwa Expressway. Her bag, containing her identity card and other personal belongings, was reportedly found a few metres away from the body.
