FCT NSCDC to Fight Vandalism, Deploys Motorcycles

—

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, has taken steps to enhance the fight against vandalism of public infrastructure and critical national assets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday.

In a recent development, he deployed motorcycles to bolster surveillance and protection efforts across Abuja.

During a ceremony held at the Command headquarters in Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja, Commandant Odumosu handed over keys to motorcycles to the heads of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) department, as well as the Intelligence and Investigation department.

He emphasized the importance of utilizing these motorcycles for round-the-clock surveillance and monitoring activities to safeguard Abuja’s residents and its growing infrastructure.

This initiative follows the generous donation of five motorcycles by the Honorable Minister of the FCT, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Wike, aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of the Command and other security agencies.

Commandant Odumosu expressed gratitude for the minister’s support and emphasized the need for effective results to justify this investment.

Addressing the personnel, Commandant Odumosu stressed the importance of preventing criminal elements from undermining the ongoing infrastructural development efforts in the FCT.

“I want you to pay serious attention to that sector to stop vandalism of the rail sleepers, cables and other components that could jeopardise its operations.

“And remember also, that, street lights are being repaired, manhole covers being replaced, and new roads are being constructed in an unprecedented manner.

“It is our responsibility to reduce the threat level to the barest minimum, and rid the FCT of vandals, especially those disguising as scavengers but are indeed criminals in the city.”

With the imminent commissioning of the Abuja Metro line and ongoing repairs of street lights, manhole covers, and road construction, he underscored the critical role of the NSCDC in curbing vandalism and ensuring the smooth functioning of these essential amenities.

In addition to maintaining the motorcycles in top condition, Commandant Odumosu urged the public to collaborate with the Corps by reporting any suspicious activities related to infrastructure vandalism.

He emphasized the shared responsibility of protecting and preserving the aesthetics and monuments of the nation’s capital, urging prompt reporting of any incidents for immediate intervention.
