The Federal Character Commission, (FCC), has called on Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) to advertise vacancies as stipulated by the constitution for employments.
The Executive Chairman of FCC, Professor Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem who was represented by the commissioner from Kwara state, Dr. Femi Ogunshola said this in Abuja on Thursday at a sensitization workshop on the need for compliance with FCC’s principles and guideline in the environment, oil and gas sector.
Ogunshola maintained that it is required that every ministries, parastatals and agencies of government should put up an advertorial in terms of employment opportunities in no less than two national dailies, from northern and southern part of Nigeria.
His words: “The importance of this workshop is to educate the MDAs in terms of the requirement of Federal Character Commission; it will go a long way for us”
He said the commission has moved in, to ensure no state is being marginalized and that every state has at least a ratio of 2.5 to 3 employment opportunities.
On his part, Honourable Abayomi Sheba, Chairman Committee on Environment and Petroleum Resources of FCC acknowledged some challenges faced by his committee on the degree of compliance by MDAs on Federal Character Commission employment principles and also the need for adequate advertorials from all ministries and parastatals before employment.
According to him: “Part of the guidelines for this innovation is that when the MDAs have vacancies they would advertise it for six weeks in two national dailies”
The workshop was put together by committee on Environment and Petroleum Resources in conjunction with Federal Character Commission that draws stakeholders from various MDAs in attendance.
