A tragic road accident occurred on Monday, involving an IVECO trailer at the Dangwaro Flyover along the busy Kano-Zaria Road.

The devastating incident led to the deaths of at least 25 passengers.

The accident was confirmed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS1.2 Kano Sector Command.

The crash took place in the early hours of Monday morning, around 3:30 am.

Abdullahi reported that 53 individuals sustained injuries in the crash. The trailer involved, an IVECO with the registration number KMC 311 ZB, was reportedly carrying 90 people when it lost control.

Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding was the likely cause of the accident, which resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle.

The scene of the crash was chaotic, with various items recovered, including six motorcycles, ten mobile phones, several animals such as rams and goats, maize, and a sum of four thousand naira. These items have been taken into police custody for further investigation.

All the victims were quickly transported to Murtala Specialist Hospital in Kano to receive urgent medical attention. CRC Abdullahi Labaran, the SPEO/PRO of FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command, confirmed the swift response to provide necessary medical care to the injured.

In response to the incident, Sector Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi highlighted the dangers of transporting animals, goods, and human beings simultaneously.

He stressed that this unsafe practice not only endangers lives but also violates traffic regulations designed to ensure road safety.

The FRSC has strongly urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.

They emphasized the importance of safe driving practices and the need to avoid overloading vehicles, which can lead to catastrophic accidents.
