Farmer Held as Court Bars Bail in Child Abuse Case

—

A Kaduna State High Court in Kafanchan has ordered the remand of a farmer, Bulus Umaru, at the Kafanchan Correctional Facility over allegations involving two minors.

Presiding judge, Mr Michael Eugene, turned down the defendant’s bail request and directed that he remain in custody while the case proceeds. The court fixed March 5 for the commencement of the trial.

Umaru is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on abduction and defilement, to which he pleaded not guilty. Earlier, the state counsel, Mr Daniel Isah, told the court that the alleged offences occurred on Dec. 18, 2025, at Zunuruk in Kaura Local Government Area.

He alleged that the defendant abducted the two girls, took them to his room and defiled them, adding that vigilant neighbours apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

The prosecution asked for an adjournment to line up its witnesses, noting that the alleged acts contravened Sections 215 and 209 of the Kaduna State Penalty Code.
