Fans, colleagues and admirers of legendary Nigerian musician, Sunday Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), have flooded social media with tributes as the jùjú music maestro celebrates his 80th birthday.
Fans on Tuesday celebrated the music icon with goodwill messages, prayers and tributes, praising his more than six decades of contributions to Nigerian and African music.
Nigeria Stories, a digital news and storytelling platform, was among those who celebrated the veteran musician in a post on its verified X account.
“Happy 80th birthday to King Sunny Ade,” the platform wrote.
The post triggered an outpouring of reactions from fans and admirers who described KSA as a legend and icon whose music has influenced generations.
One X user, @GodsSon, recalled growing up listening to the musician’s songs and wrote: “KSA, the man I grew up playing his music in my village as a child. That track he released for Oba Adeso Oye was one of his best tracks. Happy birthday, great man; these are the people I call legends.”
Another user, @richardOluwagbem, wrote, “Born in the same month as me. Happy birthday King Sunny Ade.”
@thepeaceambassador prayed for the musician’s longevity, writing, “Happy birthday sir, age gracefully and in good health, you’re a great legend.”

Born on Sept. 22, 1946, in Ondo State, King Sunny Ade began his musical career with Moses Olaiya’s Federal Rhythm Dandies.
He later formed the Green Spots in 1967, a band that was subsequently renamed African Beats as he developed the distinctive jùjú sound that would earn him international acclaim.
KSA gained global recognition in the 1980s after signing with Island Records and releasing acclaimed albums including Juju Music and Synchro System.
His music blends traditional Yoruba rhythms, talking drums, guitars, call-and-response patterns and praise singing with modern Western instrumentation.
His 1980 album, Synchro System, earned him a Grammy nomination in the Ethnic/Traditional Folk Recording category, making him the first Nigerian to receive one.
His 1998 album, Odu, was also nominated for Best World Music Album at the Grammys. Over the years, KSA has received numerous honors for his contribution to music. He was inducted into the Hard Rock Café Hall of Fame in December 2016 and the Headies Hall of Fame in February 2021.
He is also a recipient of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), a national honor recognizing his contributions to the Nigerian music industry.
