Family of Slain Oyo Teacher, Michael Oyedokun, Begs Public to Stop Sharing Graphic Killing Videos

The family of Michael Oyedokun, an Oyo State school teacher killed during a bandit attack in Oriire Local Government Area, has appealed to the public to stop sharing graphic images and videos of his death across social media.

Gunmen had invaded the Aholo–Esiniele community last Friday, abducting pupils, students, and staff from four schools. Mr. Oyedokun was later killed during the attack, with a video of the incident reportedly circulated online.

In an emotional appeal shared on Facebook on Tuesday, May 19, a family member, Adesewa Oladosu, said the repeated circulation of the disturbing content has left the family deeply traumatized.

She noted that the impact has been particularly painful for the late teacher’s children, who are currently sitting for their WAEC examinations, as well as other close relatives struggling to cope with the loss.

While appreciating the public’s sympathy and support, the family urged individuals and media platforms to either stop sharing the content entirely or ensure that any reports use only blurred footage or family-approved images.

They also called for greater sensitivity, stressing the need to protect the emotional and mental well-being of those left behind during this difficult period.
