Fake EFCC official jailed for 15 years.

A High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State has sentence one Mohammed Umar to 15 years in prison for parading himself as an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The accused was convicted for obtaining money under false pretences, impersonation/identity theft and conspiracy.

While delivering his judgment, Justice Yakubu Gyang Dakwak said that the prosecution had proved the cased against Mohammed Umar beyond reasonable doubt and pronounced the accused guilty on all the three counts.

Mr Mohammed Umar alias ‘Terror’ was arrested in 2008 following reports that he had been parading himself as a personnel of the EFCC and extorting money from some top Government officials in some Northern States, especially Sokoto, Gombe and Bauch States on grounds that there were mountainous petitions against them, and that he could help in sweeping the petitions under the carpet.

The accused was said to have received some huge sums of money from some top government officials.
