The Senatorial Candidate for Ànambra Central Zone, on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Hon Dozie Nwankwo, has warned against making political capital out of the fatal attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Anambra State Government, Hon Ben Nwankwo, which cost the lives of two police escorts and two aides.
According to him, the unfortunate incident could happen to anyone anywhere in the world.
It will be recalled that the convoy of the Chief of Staff of the Anambra State Government, Hon Sir Ben Nwankwo, was attacked by hoodlums dressed in police uniform last Sunday along Awa-Ufuma Road on their way from an official function. It claimed the lives of four people.
But in a press statement he signed, Nwankwo, a former House of Representatives member who represented Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency, said any loss of human life was always a minus to humanity and not what anyone would use to score what he described as cheap political points.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
“Humanity has been depreciated by the killing of those people. They came from families and were their breadwinners. They, however, sadly died in active service and I convey my deepest condolences to their grieving families,” Nwankwo stated.
He, however, warned against making political capital out of what he described as the sad event, noting that even in America, perceived as the world’s most powerful country, violent crimes were still committed.
He reaffirmed his confidence in the security architecture of Anambra State as outlined by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, expressing satisfaction that, before the latest incident, Anambra had recorded no such crime.
He enjoined Anambrarians to join hands with the governor and security agencies in fighting crime, which, he said, was everybody’s job.
“As our governor would say, if you see something, say something. The government and security agencies are neither spirits nor magicians who can know everything.
The task of securing our state from hoodlums is everyone’s job, and once we see it this way, the job of the government and security agencies becomes easier,” Nwankwo stated.
