Pius Ewherido, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives between May 1999 and May 2007, and a serving Senator has died. The Senator died of stroke, Sunday evening, in Abuja. He was elected Senator for Delta Central in the April 2011 national elections on the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) platform.
Born on May 4, 1963 in Ughelli, Delta State, the late Senator attended Notre Dame College, Ozoro; Urhobo College, Effurun, Delta State and the University of Ife where he studied Philosophy. He later studied Law at the same University and was called to the Nigerian Bar.
Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan said he received with shock and sadness the news of the passing away of the Senator. He expressed heartfelt condolence to the Senator’s family, the Senate President and all the late Senator’s colleagues in the upper chamber of the National Assembly. The President equally commiserated with the government and people of Delta State, praying that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Senate Senator David Mark reportedly wept on hearing about the death of Senator Ewherido, said to be urbane and one of the most erudite and articulate members of the upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
Acting National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Barr Tony Caesar Okeke described Ewherido as a distinguished Nigerian and a vibrant lawmaker who put in his best in the service of the nation. The PDP chieftain prayed God to give the people of Delta State and the Ewherido family the fortitude to bear the loss.
