Europa League: Cyriel Dessers Scores as Man United Leapfrog Rangers

Manchester United’s win against Rangers was secured in the dying minutes after the Red Devils were nearly settling for a draw at Old Trafford during Matchday 7 of the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The tightly contested match, which was goalless in the first half, came to life in the second half with three goals. United were fortunate to go ahead after the first goal, which was unfortunately an own goal.

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers, who came off the bench in the 71st minute, leveled the game at 1-1 with an excellent strike. It was in the second minute of added time that Bruno Fernandes scored, propelling the Red Devils to a 2-1 victory at full time.

Speaking to RangersTV, Dessers said: “It is difficult to take at the end, especially because of the rollercoaster of emotions at the end.

“At first you feel that you are going to walk away with a point from Old Trafford and then you let it slip and that hurts.

“I think we can be very proud of the performance, to come here, with a team with a few injuries before the game and then we picked up some more during the game.”

Manchester United are in fourth place in the league standings with 14 points, just five points behind leaders Lazio. They will return to action when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage in London on Matchday 23 of the Premier League.
