Ethan Chidebere Nwaneri Signs First Professional Contract with Arsenal

Ethan Chidebere Nwaneri has recently put pen to paper on his inaugural professional contract with Arsenal. Representing England and eligible to play for Nigeria, Ethan’s journey began when he joined Arsenal in May 2015. He swiftly made his mark as a crucial player, progressing through the ranks of Arsenal’s Academy.

This season alone, Ethan has displayed his remarkable goal-scoring abilities, netting an impressive 14 goals at the academy level. He has also been a prominent figure for the Gunners, earning 14 caps across various competitions.

In February of this year, he made his debut in the senior team as a substitute during Arsenal’s emphatic 6-0 victory against West Ham.

Ethan’s breakthrough came in September 2022 when he became the youngest player to feature in a top-flight English match at the tender age of 15 years and 181 days. He also etched his name in Arsenal’s history books as the youngest player to represent the men’s first team during their 3-0 triumph over Brentford.

Arsenal Academy Manager, Per Mertesacker, expressed immense pride in Ethan’s journey. From his early days in the pre-academy to Hale End and the seamless transition to the Sobha Realty Training Centre, Ethan’s progression has been remarkable. The club will continue to support him as his development progresses, both on and off the pitch.

Mertesacker highlighted Ethan’s exceptional ball control, dominant presence in possession, and effectiveness in the final third, qualities that align perfectly with Arsenal’s style of play. As a steadfast young Gunner, Ethan is set to thrive and the club eagerly anticipates his ongoing development in the coming years:

“We are extremely proud of Ethan and his journey, from pre-academy to Hale End, then a seamless transition to Sobha Realty Training Centre and then making his first team debut. Ethan’s journey now continues, and we will all be there alongside him to support his development.

“Ethan has a strong ability to master the ball, dominate possession, and is effective in the final third, which fits into our playing style at Arsenal Football Club. He is someone that will thrive on and off the pitch as a Strong Young Gunner, and we look forward to working with him during his ongoing development in the years to come.”
