Encomiums As I-Witness Media Crew Marks 2nd Anniversary

It was a day of commendations for the I-Witness Media Crew as it celebrated its second year anniversary today in Awka, Anambra State Capital.
The Media crew was founded in 2018, with the intent to disseminate activities of Anambra State Government to the people and garner feedback from the grassroots back to the government for the purpose of good governance.
At the Secretary to the State Government’s Hall, Anambra State Government House, Awka, it was commendation after commendation from Anambra stakeholders to the I-Witness Media Crew for their efforts at bridging the gap between the government and people of the state through genuine publicity.
Speaking during the occasion, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, said the state government is pleased with the group, while urging them to sustain the tempo.
He disclosed that the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano has approved a bus for the Crew to facilitate their functions in the state.
Adinuba harped on the importance of giving publicity to the development strides of the state government, urging the group not to relent on their oars in correctly propagating the affairs of the state.
In his words, “Information dissemination is key for any government to succeed in effectively mobilizing the citizenry. Without information on government activities, the people are in the dark as to what government is doing. On the other hand, without the government knowing the actual yearnings of the people, it may end up initiating programmes and policies with little or no bearing on the welfare of the people. Therefore information is at the heart of what we do as government and that is why the state government is appreciative of what the I-Witness has done so far.”
In a lecture presentation, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano, Mr. James Eze, described the event as historic and praised the group for its enthusiasm in disseminating the right information to Anambrarians.
Speaking on the title, ‘Nigeria: The audacity of new thinking’, the chief press secretary regretted that Nigeria as a country is yet to win the love and trust of Nigerians.
This, he said, makes people move out of the country in search of greener pasture.
He, however, posited that leaving the country is not the best way to confront the problem facing Nigeria.
Ruing that Nigerians only yearn for a better country from the political leaders, Eze said no one should depend solely on the political leaders for positive change, and urged Nigerians to take responsibility to better the country.
He further said the recent #EndSARS protest was an eye-opener and a sign that things can never remain the same.
Earlier in a remark, the Convener and founder of I-Witness Media, Mr. Chidiebele Obika, while highlighting the challenges faced by the group in educating the public on the developmental strides in the state, extolled his crew members for their commitment in ensuring accurate reportage of government activities.
He also thanked the state government for approving and supporting the activities of the team.
“What we have done over the past two years was to entrench a new way of thinking in our people especially towards government, by keeping them constantly in the know, as to what government is doing. We found out that there was a lacuna and to the glory of God, two years down the line, we have gone ahead to significantly make an impact,” he said.
Obika who noted that the task ahead is still enormous, said the overwhelming reception of the Anambra citizenry has been and will continue to be an inspiration for them to continue to do better.
Other dignitaries in attendance were Igwe Sir. Ben Emeka, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Hon Mike Okonkwo, Commissioner for housing and urban development,  Hon Emeka Ezenwanne, commissioner for public utilities, Dr. Vincent Okpala, commissioner for health,  Engr. Francisca Anyafulugo, Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Others are, Chief Uchenna Okafor, commissioner for trade, commerce and wealth creation, Hon Nonso Smart Okafor, member representing Nnewi North Constituency in Anambra state house of assembly, Barr. Chike Maduekwe, Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, among other heads of agencies.
High point of the 2nd year anniversary celebration was the presentation of award of recognition and excellence to the above dignitaries.
In their various responses, the awardees encouraged the I-Witness Media Crew, and assured of their support to the media outfit.
