Emir of Damaturu Urges Traders to Lower Prices of Essential Goods in the State

The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II, has called on traders in the state to reduce the prices of essential goods to support the common people. 

The Emir expressed concern over the high and unaffordable prices of these commodities, which he believes are causing significant hardship for the less privileged.

Speaking to reporters at his palace in Damaturu on Sunday, the Emir emphasized the urgent need for business owners to lower the prices of food items to make them affordable for the poor.

 He stressed that traders should take necessary steps to cut down the prices of foodstuffs in the interest of the people and to assist those who are less fortunate.

“I want to inform you that we are worried about the rising prices of commodities in the state, I implore the traders to make essential goods more affordable for the general public, especially the less privileged,” the Emir said

The Emir pointed out that excessive profits, particularly on essential items like food, go against moral principle.s. He also called on government officials to continue their efforts in assisting the less privileged.

Acknowledging the economic hardship faced by many, particularly their struggle to afford basic food items in Yobe and across Nigeria, the Emir advised traders to sell their goods at more affordable rates.

 He urged them to explore various means to make their prices accessible to ordinary citizens.

Additionally, the traditional ruler called on various organizations in society to increase their efforts in supporting persons with disabilities and the less privileged during this challenging period.
