Emefiele’s Court Case Adjourned Until January 18, 2024

Reports reaching the News Chronicle indicate that the trial in the alleged procurement fraud suit against the former Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been adjourned until January 18, 2024.

This information was disclosed by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The former CBN boss is accused of taking advantage of his position to engage in a corrupt act with Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN staff, by awarding a contract for the purchase of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.

During a previous court appearance, Emefiele was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending a ruling on his bail application on November 22. Justice Hamza Mauzu had earlier granted him bail in the sum of N300 million. As part of the bail conditions, the accused is expected to provide two sureties in a like sum. These sureties must possess titles of properties and certificates of occupancy within the Maitama districts in Abuja.

Following his failure to meet the bail conditions, Emefiele was brought to court and taken away by armed personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Center.
