Drama ensued as EFCC quickly rearrested the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, who regained his freedom on Thursday night from the Department of State Services (DSS).
It was gathered that Emefiele who had been in DSS custody since June 9, was re-arrested immediately by the anti-corruption agency Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Emefiele regained his freedom last night but he was immediately picked up by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” a source reported.
It should be recalled how an official release by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information, for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, confirmed thus, “Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.”
Several reports confirmed the arrest of Mr Emefiele by the EFCC after spending over 100 days in DSS custody.
