Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter), has announced plans to relocate their headquarters from California to Texas.
SpaceX, currently based in Hawthorne, California, will move to Starbase, Texas, while X, headquartered in San Francisco, will shift to Austin, Texas.
The decision comes in response to a new Californian law that prohibits schools from mandating teachers to inform parents about students’ gender identity changes.
Musk, who relocated Tesla’s headquarters from Palo Alto to Austin earlier, cited concerns over policies he views as part of a “woke” agenda, including opposition to using preferred pronouns.
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the controversial bill into law, reflecting his ongoing support for LGBTQ rights in educational settings.
The legislation overturns previous decisions by conservative school districts on notifying parents about changes in students’ gender identity.
This move reflects Musk’s ongoing disagreements with Governor Newsom, with past clashes over COVID-19 pandemic policies further highlighting their divergent views on governance and social issues.
