El-Rufai’s Family Gives Defence Minister 7 Days to Retract Killing Allegation

The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has given the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), seven days to withdraw his allegation that the former governor played a role in orchestrating killings in Southern Kaduna or face legal action.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 7, 2026, the family said General Musa made the allegation during a live interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on September 3.
The family described the allegation as serious and demanded evidence to substantiate the claim. It said that while the Defence Minister has the right to express his views, El-Rufai’s family also has the right to demand credible evidence for such a serious accusation.
The family therefore demanded that General Musa either provide evidence supporting the allegation or publicly retract it and issue an unreserved apology through the same medium where the allegation was made.
It warned that failure to comply within seven days would leave the family with no option but to approach the court to seek appropriate legal remedies over what it described as an unsubstantiated allegation.
The statement was signed by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the El-Rufai family in Abuja on September 7, 2026
