Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State said yesterday that Senator Ike Ekweremadu will soon be stripped of his position as the deputy Senate President.
He said in no distant time, the APC senator “in the waiting” from Imo State, Benjamin Uwajumogu, will take over the seat.
According to him, it was an aberration that a PDP senator from the South-East is the deputy to an APC Senate president.
A statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, said Okorocha had just organized a victory party for members and leaders of the APC in the state, to celebrate the outcome of the first part of the re-run elections for Okigwe zone senatorial seat, and the two state constituencies of Oru-East and Oru-West, held on Saturday, July 23.
He also advocated for the recall of all the National Assembly members from the state on the platform of PDP in order to face proper election, saying those held in 2015 were rigged by the then ruling party.
Responding, Senator Ekweremadu said Okorocha was on a wild goose chase.
A statement by his special adviser on media, Uche Anichukwu, said Okorocha’s statement showed that he lacked the understanding of the workings of the legislature.
He noted that he was not perturbed in any way by the wishful prospects of an APC senator of South East extraction.
