Eight people were reportedly killed and at least 15 others injured after suspected armed herders attacked Saai community in Mbajir Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State, in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the community, killing several residents and leaving at least 15 others with gunshot injuries. The injured victims were taken to hospital for treatment.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly and unacceptable” assault on innocent civilians.
The governor directed security agencies to reinforce security in the area, apprehend those responsible for the attack and ensure the safety of residents and farmers.
As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
