The Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has praised the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after witnessing two local league matches.
As part of his plan to continue scouting home-based players for the national team, Eguavoen was spotted in Nasarawa, watching matches between Nasarawa United vs. Abia Warriors and Lobi Stars vs. El-Kanemi Warriors.
“The standard of football has improved remarkably,” Eguavoen said. “I’m impressed with what I saw. The Nigerian league is on the rise, and if this momentum continues, the sky is the limit.”
Eguavoen, along with the Super Eagles’ technical team and players, returned to Nigeria yesterday after failing to play their 2025 AFCON qualifier in Libya, where they were subjected to poor treatment for hours.
As previously reported by The News Chronicle, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into the incident.
Despite missing out on matchday 4, Nigeria still tops Group D. Meanwhile, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Uganda, Senegal, Angola, Egypt, and Algeria have all secured their spots at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
