Minister of Education Professor Mamman Tahir praised Adamawa State Polytechnic for the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) center in Yola.
The Minister, represented by Mr. Jacob Ango Umaru, who encouraged students to utilize the equipment for their trades, urged the Polytechnic to work with the state government to secure more equipment.
The Minister made these comments on Thursday during the inauguration of the NSQF in Yola.
The Polytechnic organized the ceremony to comply with the National Board of Technical Education’s directive to promote skill acquisition among youths. 180 students will be trained in various skills.
These skills include wheel alignment, refrigeration, welding, carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying, digital photography, electrical installation, fashion design, and automobile maintenance.
Mr. Abdulrahaman Alpha, the North East Zonal Director of NBTE, praised the Polytechnic and encouraged others to do the same.
The Rector, Professor Mohammed Dahiru Toungo, credited Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s leadership for the project’s success. He said the program aims to provide meaningful engagement for youths through skill acquisition.
The Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework is a system to develop, classify, and recognize skills and knowledge. It applies to all individuals, regardless of where or how they acquired their skills.
Mr. Alpha, the NBTE Director, echoed the Rector’s sentiments and encouraged other institutions to follow suit.
Engineer Ahmed Jumba, the guest speaker, explained the NSQF program’s purpose. He discussed how it compares different qualifications and provides clear progression routes.
Jumba highlighted the program’s goals, including promoting lifelong learning, facilitating understanding of occupational learning routes, and improving career mobility in the non-formal sector.
