Edo Summons Lawmaker Natasha Irobosa Over Viral Fight With 2Baba

The Edo State House of Assembly has summoned lawmaker representing Egor Constituency, Hon. Natasha Irobosa, to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee following allegations of misconduct linked to her widely publicised marital dispute with legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba.

The decision was announced during plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, who stated that the conduct of the lawmaker had brought reputational damage to the Assembly.

“Hon. Natasha Irobosa has been summoned to appear before the Ethics and Privileges Committee of the Assembly due to her recent conduct which has been trending online,” the Speaker said.

This conduct drags the name of the House into the mud, and it is the responsibility of members of the Assembly to conduct themselves well.

“This House has cerebral minds and educated people who have been dragged in the mud for too long by our colleague, Hon. Natasha. She has been trending on social media and television for the wrong reason.

“The House has members who know what they are doing, and the attitude of our member has brought this House to disrepute, and we will not tolerate it,” he added.

The committee is expected to submit its report to the House within two weeks.

The Assembly’s action follows the circulation of several videos showing heated exchanges between the lawmaker and her husband.

One of the videos captured an argument between the couple during a live Instagram broadcast hosted by media personality Daddy Freeze. During the session, which originally focused on stalled music projects involving 2Baba’s former management team, the singer suddenly joined and confronted his wife.

At one point during the exchange, he was heard asking, “What is your problem?” before the argument escalated and the broadcast abruptly ended.

Another video that circulated widely online showed the singer being handcuffed by police in the United Kingdom and escorted away from a retail store while officers spoke to him.

During the same live broadcast, 2Baba’s former manager, Mr. Kaka Igbokwe, confirmed that the incident occurred following a dispute between the couple shortly after arriving in London.

According to Igbokwe, the disagreement began when the singer interacted with fans who had ushered him into a shop, leaving his wife behind.

When he realised she was no longer with him and returned to her, she reportedly reacted angrily, which led to police intervention.

“Everything you had on the couple’s face-off was true,” Igbokwe told viewers during the broadcast.

Members of 2Baba’s former management team also alleged that internal disputes had affected the singer’s professional life.

They claimed that a planned United Kingdom tour, an African tour, stadium concerts and several government-backed engagements across different countries were cancelled or stalled.

You go out there to make your money; even if it’s 100,000 people listening, the money is enough to sustain you,” Igbokwe said.

He added that long-standing plans were to position the singer among internationally respected African musicians.

“You can’t compare yourself to Burna Boy, but you can achieve what Angélique Kidjo has done. You can still do arenas,” he said.

The videos have drawn strong reactions from fans, entertainers, and social media users, many of whom expressed concern over the singer’s wellbeing and the impact of the dispute on his public image.

Popular content creator Nasboi described the situation as painful, writing in an open letter that the man he admired had always been calm and private about personal matters.

“The 2Face I grew up loving was calm, humble, and carried himself with grace,” he wrote.
“This situation is presenting a side of you that many of us have never seen, and it is painful to watch. Please take control of this situation.

Singer Terry G called on Nigerians to pray for the couple, saying relationship challenges affect everyone.

Teni the Entertainer also appealed for public support, posting an image in a soldier’s uniform captioned, “We must go help Baba like this.”

However, actor Uche Maduagwu criticised the singer, describing the situation as a consequence of past choices and calling for marriage counselling.

Some fans openly blamed the singer, while others defended his wife’s actions.

Background

In January, 2Baba announced the end of his 12-year marriage to Annie Macaulay.

The next month, he publicly introduced Natasha Irobosa as his fiancée and proposed to her on Valentine’s Day.

They later conducted a private traditional wedding ceremony in July in Abuja.

The lawmaker recently gave birth to their child in November.

For the Edo State House of Assembly, the matter now rests with its Ethics and Privileges Committee, whose findings will determine whether further disciplinary action will be taken against the lawmaker.
