1. The Edo State House of Assembly impeached Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu on Monday following the adoption of a report by a seven-man investigative panel tasked with probing allegations of misconduct against him.

2. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the sale of $10,000 to each Bureau De Change (BDC) operator at a rate of N1,101/$1. BDCs are instructed to sell the dollars to eligible customers at a rate not exceeding 1.5% above the purchase price, suggesting a cap of N1,117/$1. This rate is lower than the N1,251.05/$1 recorded at the end of the previous week, as per data from the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM).

3. On Monday, April 8, the crypto market displayed mixed sentiments, with more cryptocurrencies experiencing losses than gains. Bitcoin saw a slight increase of 0.03 percent, reaching $66,570 (roughly Rs. 55.4 lakh) in India but fluctuating around $69,427 (roughly Rs. 57.7 lakh) internationally. As Bitcoin’s fourth halving session approaches, volatility is expected. Losses affected various cryptocurrencies including Tether, Solana, Ripple, Dogecoin, Cardano, Avalanche, and Shiba Inu, attributed partly to BlackRock’s actions and positive US labor market indicators. Meanwhile, Neel Kashkari, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, expressed concerns about Bitcoin’s lack of legitimate use cases in advanced democracies, likening it to Beanie Babies and highlighting its volatility and potential for consumer harm. Kashkari’s remarks received criticism, with some pointing out various legitimate use cases for bitcoin.

4. Liverpool and Manchester United drew 2-2 in a thrilling match where Liverpool initially dominated but United showed resilience. Despite Liverpool’s efforts, they couldn’t secure a win, resulting in them losing ground in the title race, with Arsenal leading the table on goal difference. Meanwhile, De Bruyne’s performance sparked Manchester City’s comeback against Crystal Palace, while Chelsea’s win under Pochettino’s leadership offered hope for revival.

5. NASA has announced that a total solar eclipse will occur today, spanning across North America, including Mexico, the United States, and Canada. During a total solar eclipse, the moon moves between the sun and the earth, completely obscuring the sun’s face and causing the sky to darken as if it were dawn or dusk. NASA emphasized the importance of safety when observing the eclipse, urging the public to follow safety guidelines such as wearing specialized eye protection for solar viewing. 6. Renowned comedian, actor, and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, addressed rumors of a disagreement between him and his wife, Mabel Makun, amid speculation of their marriage troubles. Reports suggested marital discord due to alleged infidelity on AY’s part, leading to Mabel moving out. AY responded on Instagram, acknowledging his actions without going into detail, emphasizing the need to protect family privacy, especially concerning their daughter’s mental health. 7. Nollywood actress Adejumoke Oreoluwa Aderounmu, famous for her role as ‘Esther’ in the popular TV series Jenifa’s Diary, has passed away at the age of 40. She died in the early hours of Saturday, April 6, 2024. The cause of her death has not been disclosed. However, a funeral service was reportedly held for her at Owu Baptist Church in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
