Edo NUJ Mourns as Gunmen Murder Broadcaster, Odia (Watch His Last Appearance)

A broadcaster, Hillary Nosa Odia, working with Independent Television and Radio Edo State, has been murdered by unknown gunmen.

On the 19th of December, 2023, the presenter had on a live program, known as ‘Rush Hour’ highlighted the rising insecurity in Edo State, with the increase in incidents of one-chance criminals, using mini-buses in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, during the Yuletide.

He also hammered on the need for security operatives to wake up to the task of securing lives and property in the state, without knowing the appearance would be his last on the matter.

He also vowed to raise a protest against the problem if nothing is done about the rising insecurity in the state capital, using small mini-buses.

Unfortunately, the broadcaster was killed by unknown gunmen on the 24th of December, 2023, at 7 pm.

Reacting to the murder, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council has commiserated with the management and staff of Independent Television and Radio over the death of the broadcaster who was brutally murdered around 2nd East Circular, Benin city on the night of December 24, 2023.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the NUJ in Edo State, Comrade Festus Alenkhe and the secretary Andy Egbon, the union charged security agencies in the state, especially the Nigeria Police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of Hillary Odia.

The statement prayed for the repose of the soul of the fallen colleague and urged his family to take solace in the fact that Hillary will be remembered on the positive side of history.

The statement further charged Nigerian journalists to investigate the incident of Hillary’s death and as well ensure adequate reportage of the killing.
