The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philips Shaibu, on Friday declared himself an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Shaibu said he’s still in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because he was yet to severe ties with the party.
Speaking on Arise Tv’s Morning Show, the embattled deputy governor explained his support for the APC governorship candidate in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, by adding that he no longer aligns with the PDP.
“In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party. As of now, I’m a PDP man and I will not support anybody while I am in another party contrary to who I am supporting. For now, I am a member of PDP but going forward, I am good as being a member of APC; I can tell you that.” He maintained.
It would be recalled that Shaibu had donated campaign vehicles to Okpebholo recently.
The donation came amid his face-off with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which led to his impeachment as deputy governor.
However, an Abuja Federal High Court had reinstated Shaibu as deputy governor on Thursday July 18th.
