The Edo State Government has declared a cholera outbreak, confirming six cases across the state.
Dr. Stephenson Ojeifo, Director of Public Health, made the announcement during a news conference held in Benin.
Out of 40 suspected cases, 26 samples were sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja for testing. So far, 15 results have been received, with six testing positive for cholera.
The confirmed cases have been reported in Egor, Uhunmwonde, and Ikpoba Okha Local Government Areas.
To manage the situation, health centers and hospitals across Edo State have been designated to treat suspected and severe cases of cholera.
Residents are urged to practice good hygiene and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as watery stool or diarrhea.
