The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Rivers State has rolled out a large-scale deployment of 1,019 personnel to maintain safety on the roads during the Easter festivities.
The Acting Sector Commander, Iheanachor Obele, disclosed this through a statement issued by the Public Education Officer, Doris Ebor, on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
Obele noted that dedicated patrol teams would be stationed along key routes across the state to manage traffic and respond swiftly to emergencies throughout the celebration period.
“We have deployed 15 patrol vans, one heavy-duty tow truck and 400 special marshals for the patrol.
“The arrangements put in place will ensure free traffic flow and safe travels during the Christian celebration,” he said.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the corps’ mandate to guarantee road safety and facilitate smooth interstate movement.
He, however, raised alarm over increasing cases of reckless driving, particularly among young motorists in the state.
“It has become common in Port Harcourt City to see youths speeding in motorcades, this development has sometimes led to fatal crashes,” he said.
He appealed to members of the public to report traffic offenders via the FRSC toll-free line 122 or 0700.
The sector commander also stressed the need for synergy among security and emergency agencies to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration.
